Afternoon tea anyone?

With just 10 days to go it was felt that we needed something to spur us on. Elaine, Bethan and myself have been to Langans Tea Rooms before and Bethan suggested that maybe a trip there for afternoon tea might just hit the spot.

Unfortunately, because of work commitments, not everyone is able to attend but quite a few of us will be there on Weds 6th June to partake of Langans excellent afternoon teas. For those who've never been there you're missing a treat, the food is delicious and plentiful and whether you're a tea  or coffee drinker you won't be disappointed in the choices.

Apart from the food the setting itself, Burton House, is a wonderful old building with many original features, either sit in one of the squishy sofas in the coffee area or gather round one of the many tables. Langans is a really wonderful place to nip in for a coffee, brunch a light lunch or even a Sunday roast. Hmmmmm now, carrot cake, eclairs or gateau? I'm going to have to give that one some thought.

No tan lines ladies

Two weeks today is our photo shoot, how quickly that date has come around.

Now I know that we're not used to this beautiful sunshine and I know that it's tempting to sit out in the sun and bronze ourselves, but ladies if you turn up in 2 weeks time with tan lines you will have to contend with the wrath of Tilley and we all know that that is something  you don't want to have to do.

Of course I'm joking, Tilley is the coolest girl but if she has to air brush out dozens of tan lines she's not going to be a happy bunny. I can't begin to say what an immense amount of work Tilley is already going to have to do, not only taking all the shots but the work that comes afterwards with editing and getting them ready for printing.

So let's do all we can to make her job as easy as possible. We already know that we're to avoid tight underwear and strap marks so slap on the sunscreen ladies and keep the tan lines to a minimum. Of course if you're in a position to sunbathe naked and get a wonderful all over tan, then lucky you, but please if you're doing that don't get yourself arrested we need all of you on the 10th.

tick, tock, tick, tock

The day of our photo shoot is looming ever nearer so now is the time to finalise our plans. Elaine, Tilley and myself are meeting on Friday to put the finishing touches to our plans and to firm up all the details. Elaine and Tilley have been busy with promoting and  deciding about printing our calendars, colour, black and white? Tilley has been sketching out poses for us and of course I'm not about to reveal those yet.  I've been busy gathering costumes and props together, as you will have seen from my recent trip to Mike's Tardis. Tilley's lovely husband Matt and the Brewhouse Technician has been roped in to help us set up on the day, I don't think he actually volunteered, but on the other hand I don't think he had much choice in the matter, trust me, Tilley is a force to be reckoned with. As for my other half, Ken, well he's on standby for Friday night to put the kettle on and slice the cake, we all know you can't have a proper meeting without tea and cake - right? I hope the ladies are starting to get excited now I know the nerves might be kicking in a little, we were all so gungho a few months ago but now it's time for us to stand up and be counted. I think and hope that we're all still inspired to be part of this wonderful venture, a once in a lifetime opportunity for us all to do something daring and truly worthwhile.

The Tardis

You'll be pleased to hear that I made it safely out of Mike's Tardis. Spent an hour or so in sheer pleasure with Mike, rooting through hundreds of items for our photo shoot. As you can see from the pictures I wasn't lying when I said if you ever need anything and I do mean anything theatrical, ASK MIKE!!!

Ask Mike

In our theatre company this is something you'll hear said a lot. Does anyone have Victorian spectacles? Ask Mike, does anyone have a 1970s hat? Ask Mike, you get the picture? Mike Mear is the Mike in question, one of our members who has been a member since Victoria was on the throne ( ok I'm running for cover now incase he reads this). As you all know our calendar is a theatrical theme so we're in need of costumes/hats/ props of varying themes so the obvious thing to do was to..... you've got it... Ask Mike. So Tuesday next week I'm meeting Mike to raid his magical room of "stuff". To be honest it's not a huge room but it is a bit like the Tardis, I know I'll be able to find everything I need. I'll report back to let you know what goodies I found, if I'm not back you'll know it's because I'm lost in Mike's room forever.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall

Our Company is so fortunate to have people with amazing skills other than as performers. As things start to jog along we needed a "dressing room" mirror made complete with lights around it. So who best to go to but our very own Dave Tunks and Pete Banton. I gave them a sketch of what we needed and lo and behold it's being made as we speak.  To say the Calendar girls are grateful is to put it mildly. So a huge thank you gentlemen.

Make up artist Sheelagh Powell joins the team

I'm delighted to say that professional make up artist Sheelagh Powell will be helping our girls look their best at next month's calendar photoshoot.

Did I just say, 'next month'? Oh my goodness! That makes it sound REALLY close.

Sheelagh is in great demand for professional photoshoots and creating bridal make up and helping women look their best for special occasions so we feel incredibly fortunate to have her on the team.

Make up artist Sheelagh Powell joins Burton Calendar Girls

As you know we are taking on this project to raise as much money as we possibly can for Leukaemia Research - so we'd love to hear from anyone who can help us with that aim later this year - either through promoting calendar sales or any other ideas. Leave us a comment below if you can help.

We'd also love it if you could spread the word about this blog to anyone who might like to follow us for updates.
